Dear Friends,
Have you ever made a New Year’s resolution and failed to see it through? If I were to venture a guess, I would say that most, if not all, of us have done exactly that. Even when we have the best of intentions, dropping the ball can and often does happen.
Here is a New Year’s resolution I believe every one of us can keep! We are calling it The 4 Gospels in 40 Days. The idea behind 4/40 is very simple. In the 40 days leading up to Lent, we want to discover everything we can about Jesus. I believe reading these four different accounts of the life of Jesus will shed great light on who Jesus is, why He came, and how He can give each of us the meaning and purpose we have crave.
Each day you will have the opportunity to reflect on key questions which you can see at the bottom of the guide on the reverse side of this page. It is my hope that you will focus on at least this each day: “What did I learn about Jesus?” I want to encourage you to write down your observations in a journal or on a notepad. You will enjoy going back over your notes and seeing your growth over these 40 days.
I am encouraging our LIFE Group leaders to embrace 4/40 as their focus from January 1-February 17. I am convinced that the discussions that come from our shared insights will be catalytic and empower you with great synergy from a shared faith. You don’t have to be in a LIFE Group to participate. Ask a friend or two to join you, connect at least weekly, and watch the growth take place!
When this study has concluded, I will be distributing a series of five lessons that we are calling “Rediscovering Jesus.” This short series in Luke will help solidify our understanding of who Jesus is by examining His beginnings and His roles as healer, teacher, redeemer and life-giver. All of this is in preparation for our Easter celebration this year.
I hope you will join me in this discipleship pathway starting January 1. By the way, we are partnering with another church in this process. I am anticipating a great spiritual movement!
In Jesus,
Pastor Dave
